For applicants, colleges and careers advisers

First job preparation kit

A sample resume, a checklist to review before sending and an exercise linking your projects to a job posting. Use the resources without signing up, on your own or in a careers workshop.

The sample resume

It is a fictional case of a business administration student who has not worked yet. It shows how to present a class project and volunteering without passing them off as jobs, and how to state a language level without a certificate.

What's in the kit

A 45-minute exercise

  1. 10 minutes: choose a real job posting and highlight tasks, tools and requirements. Separate essential criteria from desirable ones.
  2. 15 minutes: find two related examples from your classes, projects or activities. Write the context, task and result without inventing experience.
  3. 10 minutes: adapt the model and check that the profile and opening sections reflect those examples.
  4. 10 minutes: swap resumes with another person. Ask them to identify the target role and one concrete piece of evidence; note what is unclear and fix it.

Timings are indicative. This exercise has not yet been validated with external institutions and does not promise a job.

Checklist before sending your resume

  • I have stated the job or type of internship I am applying for.
  • Each project, internship or volunteering activity is labelled as such.
  • Dates and language levels reflect my current situation.
  • I have included a professional email address and checked that it works.
  • I can explain each skill on my resume with an example.
  • I have followed the format the job posting asks for.
  • The PDF has selectable text and reads in the intended order.
  • I have replaced every detail from the example and checked spelling and the file name.
  • I have logged the posting and the date I applied so I can follow up.

Next steps

For advisers and organisations

You may adapt the models for a workshop and share the resources. Keep the Keyverta credit when redistributing the original material and explain that the identities and experience are fictional. Do not collect students' resumes in a shared account: each person should control their own data.

To report a correction or share questions that come up while using the kit, write to OnruTech. There is no need to send resumes or identifying details about participants.
